Description:
This project focuses on providing printers in the Northeast with information on pollution prevention technologies, especially those that will help them comply with the Clean Air Act Amendments. Printers are a large and active group of businesses in the Northeast. They have been investigating P2 options and technologies during the past several year, and the field is rapidly expanding. Swift deployment of this information to printers can provide a great economic and environmental benefit in the region. State and local pollution prevention assistance programs, university research institutes and other assistance programs house a wealth of information on innovative P2 technologies. Unfortunately, finding this information is time-consuming, and most small businesses are ill-prepared for the task. This is especially true for printers, who rarely have the resources to dedicate personnel to environmental issues.
To address this deficiency, NEWMOA proposes to establish a Pollution Prevention Information Dissemination system for the printing industry (P2ID- Print) to facilitate connections between researchers, assistance groups and the printing industry through an integrated information channel. Utilizing the expertise of NEWMOA's Northeast States Pollution Prevention Roundtable, the Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM), the Pollution Prevention Consortium of New England Universities (P2 Consortium), the Northeast Business Environmental Network (NBEN), and Printing Industries of New England (PINE) the P2ID system will provide P2 information to printers in an interactive and accessible format. To publicize the program and ensure its use, the NE Roundtable will develop a training program. The training program will teach end-users how to access and search on the system.
